Middle of the Year Testing

As we approach our middle-of-the-year testing, we appreciate your support in helping students do their very best. A good night’s sleep, a filling breakfast, continued practice reading at home, and arriving on time the day of testing all make a big difference.  We test the middle of the year READING this Monday, January 12th at 10:00am.

Students have been taught and reminded to read carefully—not to guess—ask to read the title, and use the 4-point retell system to show comprehension:

  • 1 point for stating the main idea (e.g., “The story is mostly about…” or "The main idea of the story is....").

  • 3 points for retelling 3 or more key details in sequence/order (e.g., “At the beginning… Next… Then… The last thing I read about was…”).

Please remind your child how important it is to do their best and show their growth, as these results help guide individualized learning paths and goals for the remainder of the school year. A helpful reminder to share with students: from kindergarten to 2nd grade, children learn to read; from 3rd grade on, they read to learn.

Middle of the year Math testing is on Wednesday, January 14th at 10:45am.
